Town Vis, island Vis, place for peace-seekers and adventurers

Ancient town of Vis was founded by greek tyrant Dionisius the Older in the 4th century BC. It is situated at the southern part of wide bay on the north of island Vis.  Island Vis, 50km south from the Croatian coast and 150km from Italian is one of the most beautiful Croatian islands characterized by virginal nature, crystal blue sea, pebble and sandy beaches, picturesque hidden bays, marvelous examples of sea flora and fauna. Whit its warm climate it is perfect destination for relaxing holidays. Island Vis waters are rich in sunken ships, offering scuba divers a lot to visit. Due to a large number of hidden bays, oases of peace which are hard to reach, it is a real paradise for sailors too. Vis is not a place of crazy night life but there is a number of bar/clubs where younger people can have a drink and dance in the warm summer nights. There is also a club Aquarius at the beach Kamenica in Komiza, where every year many house parties are being held in the preserved beach environoment. Vis is also known for its gastronomic delicacies - the Vis anchovy scone (viška pogača) and Vis bread (viški hlib), a delicacy dating back to Antique times and made of figs. You can try these delicacies at many restaurants in Vis, Komiza and villages in the middle of the island.
